However, Bjorn acts more of a man and less of a jerk this episode when he thanks Torvi for loving his mother and looking after his children, before he set sails to York to join hands with King Harald and defeat Ivar. Losing his mother on the battlefield, Bjorn is in a very precarious situation because he feels as though no one understands him, except Gunnhild, who also lost her husband on the battlefield. Bjorn believes Magnus is his half-brother and given his disappointment with Ubbe, Bjorn may have acted out of emotion. So, off they set to York and greet King Harald, who also has Magnus, a self-proclaimed son of Ragnar, by his side. Gunnhild asks how can that be possible since he has no army, Bjorn discloses that King Harald has. ![]() Then they turn into a romantic duo of some sorts and Bjorn declares he wants to take Kattegat back from Ivar the Boneless. Bjorn Ironside seems impressed and so are we. When he asks her, in shock, why she did so, she quips she is exercising her right to freedom and tells him to leave. In a quest to look for his vanished mother, Lagertha, Bjorn seeks the help of a prisoner, Gunnhild, a fierce shield maiden, wife of late Jarl Olavsonn and someone who has piqued the interest of King Harald as well Bjorn.ījorn sets her free after she discloses what she knows about his mother, and the first thing she does is slap him. Ragnar's vision was realized but Bjorn is far from satisfied. For the sake of Wessex, for the sake of England, and for the sake of Alfred.īut before Alfred falls ill, his generosity is reflected in keeping his promise to Ubbe and granting the Vikings the land the treaty had promised to his grandfather, Ragnar. Aethelred chokes, his face reddens and eyes turn bloodshot. When Alfred is attacked by a mysterious illness again, the kingdom opposes his rule once again as they insist on not being ruled by a "sick king." Judith is then seen wandering in the woods to make potions to help Alfred, and when dining with Aethelred, we find out medication was not the only thing she made. Despite the confrontation and Aethelred's confession that he was angry at Alfred for what was "rightfully" his and his assurance that he will never betray his brother again, his mother is less than persuaded, even though for a chance second, she looks like she is delighted her sons support each other.
